The Simple Things: a bathroom decorating story

One of the first rooms in my new apartment to get decorated was my bathroom. My mom (and sisters for that matter) started "preparing me" for my eventual move-out-on-my-own when I was about 16 years old... nothing quite says "hurry up and get the f*%# out of our house" like pots and pans and a toothbrush holder for your sweet sixteen.... and seventeen, and eighteen, and.... you get the idea. Thanks, Mom. ;)

Let me tell you though, that toothbrush holder (and the million other home-decor items gifted by my lovely mother over the years) came in very handy when I finally got out on my own.

It's rather difficult to decorate an apartment bathroom when your only options are things that aren't permanent and can be easily removed when you move again (pleeease let that be many years in the future!). I couldn't go for new cabinets or new light fixtures or new taps or anything of the sort. I was forced to resort to the basics... the simple decorating elements that warm-and-cozy-up a bathroom. So, with no major overhaul needing to be done this room came together very quickly. I already had a bathroom set complete with shower curtain and towels courtesy of the mom gifts from teenage-hood. Allow me to remind you of the original state of the bathroom when I moved in.... clean but bland.

Although my decoration is nothing special and not super style savvy, it's cute and me and better than the stark, all-white everywhere that it was before! The new and improved......

So there you have it: proof that only a few simple things can transform a space from plain and stark to warm and inviting... even if it is a bathroom! Someday maybe I can really renovate a bathroom and then I'll have some real fun! I'll save those dreams for another post....

The Culprit

Ok so I realize in my last post I said I'd post again soon and now it's been nearly a MONTH (can you believe how fast time flies???) but I haven't given up on blogging, promise! The packing, moving, unpacking and settling in took a long time and then I just got busy with life and really have no good excuse why I haven't blogged in the last week or two. The best excuse I can come up with is that I have no desk chair. I should get on that.... for now, I've moved my computer to one of my side-tables and am blogging from my living room floor. Classy.

I thought I'd get back into the blogging with some pre-move-in photos of my new place. It was very exciting to start with a (nearly) blank canvas and although I'm not nearly finished decorating my place, I've made some headway!

Without further ado.....

And on to the very empty and bland looking inside of my apartment!

My tiny yet functional Kitchen
My storage room (slash Harry Potter-Anne Frank second bedroom??). I'll rent it for $500/month... any takers??
My Balcony!
So, there you have it! My new apartment! I hope you're as excited as I am about decorating this beauty!
Till next time (and I promise next time will be sooner than last time!).
